Kahina's battle against cancer

Kahina, daughter, wife and loving mother of 2 young children, was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2021, which needed an emergency operation due to the bowel occlusion. After this being unsuccessful she had another operation, which left her with a stoma bag for 10 months. In November 2021 she had FOLFOX therapy for 6 months. When this was removed, Kay underwent systemic chemotherapy to prevent any tumour growth, but unfortunately in June 2022, a metastase grew in her ovaries, to 2.5kg (stage 4 cancer). She then had a Hysterectomy (removal of her ovaries) and she begun radiotherapy as they discovered the tumour had spread to her liver. Soon after, in October 2022, Kay begun another type of chemotherapy, FOLFIRI, Bevacizumab to prevent any further spreading of the tumour. She was told the chemotherapy had been successful in May 2023 and they stopped the treatment.

Unfortunately, in July 2023, after her check-ups, Kahina was told she had relapsed. They discovered the metastases had spread to her liver and peritoneum (abdominal wall). She had an explorative operation to see if further surgery would help to remove the metastases, where unfortunately they discovered a tumour in her bladder, which had to be extracted. However, she was told no type of surgery would successfully remove the metastases.

After a lot of research, we found a clinic in Burghausen, Germany called Medias Klinikum, which specialises in surgical oncology and regional chemotherapy.

Kahina began regional chemotherapy to shrink the metastases in hopes of getting rid of them. Each therapy costs Є20,288.47 and she has had 2 therapies so far. We have now been told Kay will need a third therapy around the 7th of November, and will potentially need a fourth.

Kahina, une figlia, moglie e madre amorevole di 2 bambini, nel settembre 2021 è stato diagnosticato un cancro all'colone, che ha necessitato di un intervento d'urgenza a causa dell'occlusione intestinale. Dopo l'insuccesso, ha subito un'altra operazione, che l'ha lasciata con una stomia per 10 mesi. A novembre 2021 ha effettuato terapia FOLFOX per 6 mesi. Quando questo è stato rimosso, Kay è stata sottoposta a chemioterapia sistemica per prevenire la crescita del tumore, sfortunatamente nel giugno 2022, le metastasi sono cresciute nel suo ovaie, fino a 2,5 kg (cancro allo stadio 4). Ha poi subito un'isterectomia (rimozione delle ovaie) e ha iniziato la radioterapia quando hanno scoperto che il tumore si era diffuso al fegato. Subito dopo, nell’ottobre 2022, Kay ha iniziato un altro tipo di chemioterapia, FOLFIRI, Bevacizumab per prevenire un’ulteriore diffusione del tumore. Le è stato detto che la chemioterapia aveva avuto successo nel maggio 2023 e hanno interrotto il trattamento.

Sfortunatamente Kahina ha avuto una ricaduta nel luglio 2023 , poiché le metastasi si erano diffuse al fegato e al peritoneo (parete addominale). Ha subito un'operazione esplorativa per vedere se un ulteriore intervento chirurgico avrebbe aiutato a rimuovere le metastasi, dove purtroppo hanno scoperto un tumore alla vescica, che ha dovuto essere estratto. Tuttavia, le è stato detto che nessun tipo di intervento chirurgico avrebbe rimosso con successo le metastasi.

Dopo molte ricerche, abbiamo trovato una clinica a Burghausen, in Germania, chiamata Medias Klinikum, specializzata in oncologia chirurgica e chemioterapia regionale.

Kahina ha iniziato la chemioterapia regionale per ridurre le metastasi nella speranza di sbarazzarsene. Ciascuna terapia costa Є20.288,47 e finora ha fatto 2 terapie. Ci è stato detto che Kay avrà bisogno di una terza terapia intorno al 7 novembre e potenzialmente ne avrà bisogno di una quarta.
