SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

EMERGENCY AT KAFUNJO

COVID - 19

A PLEA FROM BRUNO - 25/03/2020

The coronavirus has reached Uganda resulting in nationwide lockdown and the skyrocketing of food prices around the country. We are incredibly concerned about the welfare of the 300+ children who call The Kafunjo Community Project home and therefore are focussing on purchasing enough food to be sure that we are able to at least feed the children over the next few months while the crisis reaches its peak. The project director, Bruno Biryomumaisho believes that if we can raise £2500 to purchase a 3 month supply of food then we can survive this difficult period at the project. Never has Kafunjo needed you help more.

Thank you.

THE KAFUNJO COMMUNITY PROJECT - "Potential Needs Opportunity"

The Kafunjo Community Project first began in 2015 when our dear friend Bruno Biryomumaisho moved to the village of Kafunjo in South West Uganda and was shocked and saddened by the extreme poverty and dire lack of educational opportunities available to the village's poorest children.

Since then Bruno has been steadfast in his commitment to the children and has since completed the construction of St Anne Mary's Primary School in 2017, which provides free education to 350 children and full time employment to 20 teaching and support staff (not to mention a nutritious school meal daily to every child).

In 2018 Bruno completed construction of The Kafunjo Orphanage which provides a safe and comfortable bed for 140 orphans from the village and surrounding areas.

In 2020 Bruno began construction of The Kafunjo Green School, a secondary school with an ethos rooted in environmental sustainability.

With the help of his supporters around the world Bruno has purchased land in the surrounding area and begun to grow crops with the aim of making the project self sufficient with food by the spring of 2020.

The next stage for the project is to complete the construction of The Kafunjo Green School, a secondary school with a strong environmentally sustainable ethos. As well as practicing permaculture with the aim of becoming self sufficient in food production, we plan to reforest areas around the project to encourage wildlife back to the region. This will be done in parallel with conservation education classes at the project, teaching the children about nature and the importance of its respect and protection.

The children get involved in building The Kafunjo Green School - March 2020.

Both adults and children alike join hands to reforest the land around the project, insuring that the longer the project survives, the healthier the land is for people and wildlife.

Kafunjo co-founder, Jonathan Stark takes you on a short walk through the site of The Kafunjo Green School.

In 2020 we were able to take a small group of students to visit the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Providing these experiences at an early age inspire the children to become the young conservationists of the future.

All of the progress achieved in Kafunjo wouldn't have been possible without the support of Brunos supporters from around the world and the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform.

We welcome you to become part of the journey.
