Kaedon's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On Monday, October 8th, Kaedon was struck by an SUV in Danville, IN by Ellis Park. This GoFundMe account is to help cover imminent medical bills, mortgage and utilities, food, parental loss of work ability, and other unforeseen circumstances that will come about in the coming year during Kaedon's rehabilitation.

Here is his mother's Facebook post:

My best friend mentioned the amount of concerned people in our community, and I want to take a moment to thank everyone for your prayers and concerns regarding my son’s accident on Monday, and would like to provide an update for all those who have asked for one and are concerned.

My son, Kaedon, was riding his bike to Ellis Park Monday to play basketball. God was watching over him, and placed a Riley Hospital first responder 4 vehicles back from the accident. This officer spoke with me yesterday, and he witnessed the incident unfold. He saw Kaedon look left and right. Eastbound traffic was clear, and there was a car west bound that was turning left, which possibly blocked his view of traffic coming behind. As he crossed the street, an SUV drove around the car that was turning left, as everyone does, and struck Kaedon as he crossed the street. After accident analysis was done on the scene, it was determined that his bike was dragged 74 feet. This was an unfortunate freak accident.

On the way to the hospital, he seized and stopped breathing. This, combined with his multiple injuries, resulted in a heavy sedation that required a ventilator to breathe for him. He has multiple fractures in his face and head, including his eye socket and sinus cavity, and a concussion. He has 4 fractures to his pelvis (2 on each side), his right leg is broken in two places, and his right knee is waiting for an MRI- doctors believe he will need a surgery soon, and another post rehab. His left wrist is also broken, and he lost some teeth. The doctors removed his ventilator yesterday, and the cervical collar today, and he may move out of the ICU and to another until within the next 24 hrs. He will be confined to a wheelchair for at least 4 weeks, and his stay at Riley will likely be lengthy. There is a good chance he will be placed in inpatient rehab at Riley, where he will have therapy and teachers are on staff to assist with school work. He is in a lot of pain, but his personality is starting to come through, flirting with the nurses and cracking jokes at times. He has a long road to recovery, and cannot ride a bike for at least a year.

I can’t express how much it means to me, and him, that so many people are praying for him and the driver, and are showing concern and offering help. This is a wonderful and caring community. Before his ventilator was removed, he could only communicate with a dry erase board. He asked “what happened.” And after I explained, he wrote “I’m a dumbass.” Then I explained it was an accident. He then asked “Is the driver sad?” I told him what I knew, and he became very sad himself and concerned. He wrote “tell her I’ll be ok.” So if the driver reads this, or if Anyone knows her, he wants to make sure she knows he will be okay.

Thanks again to everyone who has prayed for him, for everyone who cared for him on the scene and in the ambulance, and for all of the concerns and well wishes. It means more than I can say.
