On August 19th. , 2020, The Hackettstown Police Department experienced a sudden and tragic loss. Patrolman Laver and K9 Jada were on duty when K9 Jada's health rapidly declined. Unfortunately, K9 Jada went unresponsive as she was being transported to the animal hospital. Patrolman Laver and the Newton Animal Hospital attempted to perform life-saving measures but unfortunately, K9 Jada passed from cardiac related complications.
On August 31st, the Hackettstown Police Department, Town Council, Residents, and many of K9 Jada's supporters gathered to honor her. Patrolman Laver gave Jada his final salute. Her legacy will never be forgotten.
In honor of K9 Jada, Patrolman Laver has created The K9 Jada Memorial Fund. The goal of this fund is to raise money in honor of K9 Jada and continue the operation of the Hackettstown Police Department’s K9 Unit.
On September 18th, 2020, Patrolman Laver traveled to San Francisco California to meet with Marty Mahon of Trident K9 Consulting. Marty was familiar with K9 Jada's passing and previously made contact with Chief Macaulay to offer his assistance. Patrolman Laver was fortunate enough to train with Trident K9’s team and potential K9’s. Marty Mahon has offered to donate a K9 to the Hackettstown Police Department and Patrolman Laver.
Funds donated to The K9 Jada Memorial Fund will be used to train and transport the new Hackettstown K9 from California to New Jersey and maintain the future operations of our K9 Unit. We are grateful for your support during K9 Jada's passing, and we appreciate your ongoing assistance with raising these funds in K9 Jada's honor, so that we can bring back this asset that helps us protect and serve our community. Thank you!
