Home Going for Derrick T. Staton

As we all said farewell to 2017, with the hope and dreams of new beginnings in 2018, we could never imagine that our New Year would begin with a farewell of a loved one. We are Derrick Staton's family and we are in need of your help. On New Year's Day, our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, Derrick Trevon Staton, was struck and killed on Crain Hwy by a Metro Transit K-9 Police Officer. Derrick was only 16 years old and an upstanding, vibrant sophomore at Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School. Derrick was very athletic and played Football, Baseball, Basketball and was a member of JROTC Program. Derrick had a servant's heart and was always willing to give whatever he had, including his time at local shelters feeding the homeless. He would never let anyone do anything without offering his help. Derrick was a very giving and caring person and will be missed by everyone who knew him. There are no words to describe what Derrick meant to our family. We are very saddened by Derrick's untimely death and are in complete shock. This tragedy has taken our family by surprise and we were not prepared to lose Derrick at such a very young age. We are in need of finding a way to cover Derrick's funeral expenses. We are also going to hold a memorial service in tribute to the love we all have for Derrick. We are going to miss him terribly and will appreciate everyone's prayers during this time.  Since it was so unexpected, we need help in funding his funeral expenses. We are trying to have his Homegoing service as soon as possible. We are going to miss Derrick terribly and need everyone's support and prayers during our time of bereavement. Derrick was a genuine, creative, and all around great young man, and we just want to give him the proper homegoing service. Any amount of financial assistance is greatly appreciated.
