HELP Fund Marty's Surgery

Hi, my name is Allison and I'm fundraising to help pay for my dog's surgery. Marty McFly (aka: Party Marty, Smarty Marty) needs your help! He’s a Seppala Siberian Sled Dog X Australian Shepherd and is going to be 12 YEARS OLD in November. He’s still got the heart of a puppy and a healthy spirit… BUTT, unfortunately, his bottom has been giving him painful issues and he needs an Anal Sacculectomy and lump removal.

The anal glands are scent organs used to mark an animal’s territory upon defecation. When a dog defecates, the muscles contract and allow the anal sacs to release a foul-smelling, dark-coloured substance and empty out the anal sacs. However, dogs that suffer from anal gland impaction, infection, or abscess cannot secrete this substance and often require veterinary aid.

Marty is prone to anal gland impaction and abscess, which puts him at more risk for infection. If left untreated, the infection can quickly spread and cause severe damage to the anus and rectum. I’ve done regular visits to the vet to get his anal glands professionally expressed (drained), however, he doesn’t usually present signs of full glands (scooting & foul smell) which has lead to an abscess and drainage tract last month. It was very scary and painful to see him bleeding from his bum.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to meet Marty, you know he is the goodest of goodboys. Loves people and other dogs. Marty means the world to me and I’d like to do everything I can to prevent an anal gland infection.
