On August 2014, my mother was admitted for bypass surgery. While waiting for her surgery date she suffered a massive heart attack. She was immediately taken into emergency surgery where she underwent a triple bypass, which put her on life support for some time.  Due to the amount of damage she was declared permanently disabled.

In September 2014, after a minimal recovery, we found out that her mitral valve needed to be replaced. She had to undergo yet another surgery. After her second heart surgery, she still experienced difficulties so it was decided to get another opinion.  We then switched hospitals to get additional testing for her continued heart failure and fluid. It was here, the tests revealed that she needed another (larger) valve replacement and an LVAD (left ventricular assist device). The LVAD is a pump that is placed in the heart to do the work of the left side of the heart.  

Presently, my mother is in the recovery stages from the 4 heart surgeries.  However, her future well- being will require an extensive amount of medical care and supplies. Due to the severity of her condition, my mom is unable to receive a heart transplant.
