Dojo Training Floor

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and Kyokushin-kan family,

This has been an amazing year for Kyokushin Karate Colorado.  We have doubled our membership!  We are also very fortunate to become a branch of the Kyokushin-kan International Organization, bestowing great pride and enthusiasm with our members.  In light of these fantastic changes, we reevaluated the path for our dojo and made some big decisions.

For years Sensei proudly ran his dojo out of a small dance studio, thanks to its gracious owner, Jeni Kemper.  This worked out very well, but our growth and goals now require us to look for a larger space.  Thankfully, we were recently afforded an opportunity for a larger space that satisfies just about all our current needs and future goals.  We are very excited to start training in our new space.  The space came with challenges and was/is in rough shape though.  With some long hours and hard work, we made many updates and it’s just about ready for our current members and anticipated new members.  Our biggest challenge is the concrete floor. It is covered with years of extremely hard carpet glue and has proven difficult to remove without extreme cost.  This brings us to the purpose of this letter and funding campaign.

After considering many options, we decided that the best course of action is to install mats and laminate flooring over the glue.  This approach will get our members back into the dojo quicker and is the most flexible and responsive to our needs and facility restrictions. Though this is one of the more economic and functional courses of action, it will still cost considerably more money than we have access to.

With your support, we will be able to purchase, at a minimum, the needed flooring to make our dojo the best it can be.  More importantly, it will give us the means to provide our members with a safer, more forgiving training space compared to being on bare concrete.  Any funds raised over our goal will be used to refresh our rather old equipment.

No gift is too small, and every donation brings us one step closer to training in a facility that our members and Kyokushin-kan community can truly be proud of.  Even if you cannot contribute financially, please spread the word and the link to this GoFundMe page.   And of course, referrals to our dojo are always appreciated.

As you may know, most martial artists don’t open a dojo to make money, this is especially true for Sensei.  We do it because we love living the martial way, we love training hard, we love the camaraderie, we love to teach, and we want others to love it all as well.  Through your generous donation we will be able to provide our members, your friends and family, with a training floor that is safe, durable, and suitable for the hard training that Budo and the Kyokushin Way demand.

Thank you very much for your support!  Domo arigatou gozaimasu!  Osu!

Plenty of room for sparring by our young ones at the old dojo location, but it was really tight for adults.
