My beautiful sister Carol was recently diagnosed with Melanoma. Since her biopsy, her cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. This is an aggressive cancer that will not stop spreading without treatment and prayers. Monday we have an appointment with Omid Hamid, MD Chief, Translational Research and Immunotherapy Director, Melanoma Therapeutics As the Director of the Melanoma Center and Phase I Immuno-Oncology Program at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute,
Dr. Omid Hamid works to ensure that patients receive access to the most up-to-date therapeutics. Dr. Hamid’s research focus involves manipulation of a patient's immune system to attack cancer cells and maintain continuously elevated levels of immunity and discovery of novel therapies. His research began in melanoma and has now extended into paradigm shifting trials for all cancers.
Presently her insurance has no covered treatment plan that will offer anything other that the current treatment recommendations of complete lymph node excision, a treatment with severe and permanent complications. Research now shows that extensive lymph node surgery does not increase survival in melanoma. We look forward to meeting with Dr. Hamid and starting therapy as soon as possible to use Carol's immune system to attack these cancer cells.
With the help of Dr. Ronald Shiell and West Dermatology graciously offering the excision of her primary tumor at no cost we have already saved thousands of dollars! Now that the surgery is done and we move into the second part of her treatment, with your help, together we can help Carol cover her medical cost and her loss of wages. She is currently on leave of absence from her work, she has her place of residence in Washington on hold, and she is living with us in our home while she continues her battle. Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated.
