Care for Scott & Family

Donation protected
Thank you for looking at our story – the story of Scott, Heather, and our three beautiful boys, Silas, Quentin and Isaac, and the shock that changed our lives.

Our story is painful to share – on the outside we look like a perfect, happy family that has everything going for us. But I share with you for two reasons:

1. The burden of Scott’s injury and its repercussions has become far too heavy for us to carry on our own anymore; and

2. To spread awareness about severe electrical injuries and the nervous system.

When I was pregnant with Silas, my friendly, fun-loving, helpful husband Scott received the first of two severe electrical injuries, the other of which he experienced about a year later. The trauma has been – to say the least – a personal hell for all of us. Scott is in constant, debilitating pain, but even more frustrating is that we have learned, through experience, that his neurological symptoms will not improve over time. In fact, they have grown much, much worse. This is the nature of electrical injury to the nervous system. He loses time, loses words, and loses the ability to keep himself focused. He needs to sleep a lot, and has been unable to work or spend the kind of time with the kids that he (and they) would like.

Our doctor has recommended specialized treatment for Scott, and while we have been looking at local resources, our best hope is the Chicago Electrical Trauma Research Institute , the only medical facility of its kind in the country.

The worst of our story is hindsight: when the injuries happened, we thought time would heal everything, and we thought we’d gotten a “sign” that Scott should leave his job and pursue his dream of starting his own business, something our boys would be proud of. Three years later, as Scott’s conditioned worsened in spite of his drive to succeed, we have found ourselves on a sinking ship, and we are faced with losing everything, including our home and our vehicle.

Feelings of hopelessness are lingering around us on a daily basis, but we are hanging on for the sake of Silas, Quentin and Isaac – the beautiful boys who light up our days. We have reached out to others, and we have been encouraged to share our story. The uncertainty of our future is terrifying, and our family needs your help tremendously. We are seeking assistance with medical care, travel expenses, and – for now – living expenses. We are literally living on a prayer, and will be so grateful if you can help answer ours.
