Karyn's Medical Fund

In August of 2015, Karyn got the diagnosis that would change her world. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, and subsequently had to undergo a double mastectomy and had 8 lymph nodes removed.  The procedure was not without complications however, and Karyn’s skin began to turn black and die from poor blood source. Two months later she was diagnosed with lymphedema. As a result she has to wear a compression arm and hand sleeve.

In November Karyn started the painful and time consuming process of filling her expanders. It’s very painful. She would go to her Plastic Surgeon's office twice a month where he would fill the expander with saline. Karyn was very close to having her expanders exchanged out when

Karyn developed an infection in her left side. Karyn was rushed into emergency surgery, where doctors had to remove her left expander. She was devastated. She then embraced life as an uni-boob.

After Karyn’s complications, Karyn’s husband of ten years decided he “couldn’t deal” with her medical problems, and decided to leave Karyn and her two children, Caleb and Matthew.  In the blink of an eye, Karyn became a single mother of two, with nowhere to live. She was fortunate to have a good friend take her and the boys in until she could get on her feet.

Unfortunately, Karyn developed an infection in her right side, which had spread into her bloodstream. Karyn underwent surgery yet again, this time doctors removed her right expander. Causing her to start from scratch.

Karyn needs your help. On September 20th, Karyn will undergo a procedure known as latissimus dorsi flap surgery. This surgery will use her dorsal muscle and blood source for the proper placement of the expander. Doctors have told Karyn this is her last chance at reconstruction. They will also be placing expanders on both sides.

Karyn’s upfront cost for the surgery alone adds up to $2,000, not including other medical expenses Karyn will incur while she recovers from the procedure. Karyn will have to spend a week in recovery, and 6 weeks of bedrest, due to the invasive nature of the procedure. During this time, she will be unable to work or provide for her children.

Your donation will help pay for Karyn’s procedure, and for the living expenses for Karyn, Caleb, and Matthew while she is unable to work. It is a long and costly journey ahead for Karyn, but every little bit helps.
