Justine's Emergency MFA Fund

For the past two years, I have been pursuing my MFA degree in Arezzo, Italy. They have been the most challenging and rewarding years of my life, not only as an artist but also as a person. I cannot begin to describe the ways in which this program has changed my life. I am now in the midst of my final semester of grad school in the beautiful and rural Malovice, Czech Republic with Divadlo Continuo.

On August 4th, just two weeks before starting our residency in the Czech, I received an unfortunate email stating that the federal government would no longer be supporting my Masters program abroad and, thus, I would no longer be eligible to receive financial aid to continue my studies. This news came just days after being assured that my financial aid award would in fact not be affected by these new federal regulations. Unfortunately, I relied solely on financial aid to cover my educational costs - from tuition to supplies to living expenses.

This news came at a pivotal point of my MFA career. My cohort and I were in Berlin doing a residency with the amazing Familie Floz theatre company. We weren't sure if we would be able to continue our degrees or even move on to the Czech Republic for our final residency. Additionally, due to the timing of this email, I was not eligible to apply for additional funding from scholarships or grants as all deadlines had passed.

The administration at the Accademia dell'Arte has made incredible sacrifices in order to ensure that my classmates and I are able to complete our degrees. After our training here in Malovice, the only remaining part of my degree is my thesis which I had planned to finish in Arezzo as I will have access to materials and the ability to meet with my mentor.

All donations will be applied to the costs needed to complete my degree. Primarily, the donations will cover the cost of my tuition. Once my tuition is paid any remaining costs will go towards living expenses to finish out my thesis in Arezzo.

I would very much like the opportunity to finish my degree. I have pushed myself beyond my limits in order to pursue my dreams so far. I still have dreams of sharing and teaching what I have learned, as well as committing myself to always continue learning.
