Please help DREAMer Nelson Gbohoutou raise money to FIGHT HIS DEPORTATION!

Nelson Gbohoutou came to the United States from the war-torn country of Central African Republic (CAR) in 2006, at the age of 16, along with three of his younger brothers.  One of  those brothers, Prince Gbohoutou, was recently detained by immigration agents who attempted to deport him.  Prince fought his deportation and is currently still in immigration detention in Frederick, Maryland.

Now, Nelson fears that he too will be detained and deported back to a country where he fears for his life.  Nelson needs to raise $5,000 to pay for an attorney who can fight for him, and help prevent his deportation.

The need is urgent, as Nelson has a check-in with immigration officials coming up on July 9, where it is likely that he will be detained and potentially deported, unless a lawyer can help stop it.

Nelson’s mother was brutally murdered in CAR in 2012, and his father died just weeks later in the United States.  Nelson stayed in the U.S., helping to care for his younger siblings, all of whom were eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, after these tragic events.  Unfortunately, because Nelson was already 16 when he came to the U.S., he is not eligible for the current DACA program – but would be eligible to benefit from the DREAM Act.

Nelson graduated from High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland and has been a vital part of his community for more than a decade.  He has never been convicted of any crime, other than traffic violations, and has shown himself to be a positive, contributing member of society.  Nelson desperately wants to stay in the country where he has built a life since he was a child.

If Nelson is forced to return to CAR, he could face violence because of his Christian faith, as well as his tribal identity and perceived association with his father’s political party.

Please help us get Nelson the lawyer he needs to fight his deportation!  We urgently need to reach our goal so we can ensure that Nelson has access to justice.
