June 19th, 2020Marianne Griego was in AZ taking care of her father. On the morning of the fire, Marianne received an ominous call from an ex-boyfriend allegedly stating that "everything she loved was gone in a fire!" She rushed back to NM to find that all of her belongings were lost in the arson fire. Marianne was grief stricken at the fact that her beloved black cat Misty perished in the fire. Misty was even buried without her permission as the property owners quote "Did not want to stink up the place." Marianne insisted that Misty's body be immediately exhumed! She bravely stood by patiently waiting as freshly packed earth was removed by a back hoe. Once she saw Misty's charred little body, she jumped into the 5ft deep hole and wrapped her beloved pet in Misty's blanket in order to cremate her. That is the unconditional love a pet owner has for there family member.
After months of investigating, the Espanola Fire Marshall's office has charged Marianne's ex with allegedly causing the arson and committing extreme cruelty to an animal. The case is currently in preliminary hearings with the District Attorney's office.
Life has not been easy since the fire, Marianne currently pays for a hotel room while working in Santa Fe. The only belongings she was able to retrieve from the aftermath of the fire was a hand painted jewelry box by her granddaughter who has leukemia, and a few precious family photos. Marianne works a full-time sales position in Santa Fe however the costs of hotel rooms and continuously having to replace her belongings from the fire has been crippling. PLEASE kindly DONATE for another night of hotel costs so that we can keep Marianne warm and safe during this cold early winter weather.
