Justice for American Communities Of Color

Tax deductible
My name is Conner Hoyt and I am a 23-year-old white male from Los Angeles.

In the wake of the abhorrent murder of George Floyd, each of us is called to action to demand justice not only for Floyd and his family, but communities of color in this country that have been and continue to be systematically oppressed through no fault of their own. However, the white community time and again, has, through its complacency, failed its black compatriots. Here's my stab at being part of the solution:

BikingForJustice401 is an initiative born of out of necessity, to call attention to the racial inequities faced by BIPOC in the United States.

In July, participating cyclists and I will spend 13 days cycling from Richmond, VA to Baltimore, MD, hitting places of historical significance along the way (Mount Vernon, the National Mall in D.C., Bowie State University, to name a few). With each of these stops, the ride will total 401 miles, a mile for each year since the slave trade was brought to the United States.

So let's raise $10,000 for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and take a small step at righting that ship. I will personally match up to $401 in donations. Any donation is much appreciated!!

In each community we visit, riders will protest with three particular demands:

- Significant budget cuts to police departments nationally; reinvestment of those cuts into health and education programs in communities of color.
-  Divert existing police funding away from weaponry and towards expanded implicit racial bias training.
- Abolish the legal doctrine of Qualified Immunity that has granted law enforcement impunity in the face of egregious abuses of power.

I will also recognize community-specific racial injustices in each place I visit with a brief retelling of those histories on an Instagram account devoted to this trip. You can follow along @bikingforjustice401.

Any donation is appreciated and I hope you'll follow along.

In solidarity,
Conner
