More information about Revive Congo: To educate and equip young people between the ages of 8-21 in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the UK.

Junior Masandi is taking part in a 1000-mile walk across the UK from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise £10,000 to support orphans in the Congo on June 1st 2022.

They say that i understand a person you need to walk a mile in their shoes. But if we only walk a mile in their shoes, the journey eventually ends. The experience, the comprehension and the entire foundation of our understanding. Understanding doesn’t solely derive from physical experience; it is something which needs to be developed and built upon through awareness. Junior is embarking on this fundraising journey to highlight that basic human rights are still not enough of a priority in many countries, where for some every day is shaped by the walk for water. A journey which takes more than 15 hours a week, is a burden which usually falls upon women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who on average will walk 3.5 miles a day carrying 20 litres of water. It is physically demanding, time consuming, a health risk and in the long-term impacts females’ ability to live up to their full potential due to the lack of schooling.

Revive Congo is a Non-profit organisation, which seeks to empower and create opportunities for young people between the ages of 8-21 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the last 2 years, Revive Congo have supported 4 orphans with their educational costs and have supported the orphanage itself. Ongoing fundraising projects like this, are an important element to NGOs both by sharing their message and aim but also allowing for their continuation as they have a reliance on donations and grants.

The walk will help raise attention to the growing concern of water scarcity in the developing world and the money raised will be put back into the community of the Congo supporting orphans with opportunities and an education to a better future; breaking away from the normative cycles of poverty and gender roles.

The journey will be documented along the way via social media and daily updates will help reinforce the cause. Whilst embarking on the journey across the UK, Junior will interact and meet passers-by and intends to share the vision and goals of the charity and hopes to therefore continue fundraising to the very end. Junior has previously walked 250 miles from London to Middlesbrough for the same cause and raised £2,000. His continuing drive and passion for this cause has encouraged him to push himself further and embark once again, walking an extra 750 miles. Allow his 1,000 miles be a step towards our awareness.
