Stolen Laptop - hoping 4 good karma

Dear Family & Friends,
On the flight home from my sister's wedding in Portugal, my laptop was stolen from the overhead storage unit on the plane. I did not notice until the next morning at home and was horrified to find out that my laptop was no longer in my backpack. I had no idea that theft even occured on planes, espeically from bags that you think are safely stored above you. I was able to track down the location of my laptop to Sao Paulo, Brazil when it connected to the wifi there. It's safe to say I won't be seeing it again, and some lucky Brazilian man has been blessed with thousands of brilliant neuroscience articles to read.
I feel super uncomfortable asking for money, but I am in a tough situation and have been left very few options.
My laptop was everything to me. It was my academic bible, my colourful organizer, and a storage unit for lifelong silly photos. My thesis, my med application, my beautifully organized notes...are all lost.
I'm hoping to replace my MacBook as soon as possible and recover the documents I had saved on my Dropbox. As a graduate student and future medical student, I'm bound to student debt, a below minimum wage stipend and hours and hours of endless reading and thesis writing.
I will forever be indebted to those who can help me out in this stressful time. I'll be done my "formal" education in 5 years time and promise to take every single donor out for a drink then!!
A MacBook pro will cost me around $2000+ to replace. I need a specific Apple laptop to run the programs required for my thesis data. Unfortunately there's no cheap way out of this.
The sooner I can purchase a new MacBook, the quicker I can start re-writing the academic documents that have been lost and continue with my thesis and applications to medical school. For those that know me well, you know how distressed I am without my spreadsheets and colour coded iCalender.
I hope you can empathize with my crappy situation and can afford to help me out, even if it's just a toonie, every small donation means so much to me.
