Meet Judy - A cute four month old Polish hen. My husband and I rescued Judy last night from a horrible scenario - her previous owner abandoned her outside with what he called a "foot problem".
Upon bringing her home, we discovered that Judy had a zip tie imbedded in her leg which had become so painful and infected that she could neither walk nor stand. This morning we rushed her to Tufts veterinary hospital and the current estimate for sedating and removing the infected plastic is nearly $1,200. The emergency visit, antibiotics, and procedure costs quickly added up.
The doctor said that Judy is a beautiful, otherwise healthy bird and that she is a fighter! While my husband and I are trying to be Good Samaritans, the veterinarian bill is steep.
