JT's Wheelchair Accessible Van Fund

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Trisha, JT’s mom. JT is a smart, sweet and amazing young man. He was diagnosed at the age of 7 with a progressive muscle wasting disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease that only affects 1 in every 3,500 boys. DMD causes dystrophin to be absent in the body, because of this, the muscle cells are easily damaged and eventually the muscles waste away. This in turn leads to other serious problems with the lungs and the heart. At this time there is no cure for this horrible disease.

JT was able to walk until he was about 12 only using a manual wheelchair for distances. Since he stopped walking he uses a manual chair to go places in our car, where we lift him to put him in and then put the chair in the trunk.  He is only able to use his power chair at home and to go to school since he takes the accessible bus to school. Up until recently we have been able to use his manual chair lifting him in and out of the car.
Back in November, JT fell out of his manual chair and broke his left hip. Since then he does not want to be in the manual chair for fear of falling and also comfort reasons.

Being able to purchase an accessible van will give him so many opportunities to take his power chair everywhere he goes. This will help him get out of the house more and give him the ability to be more independent.

Please join in our effort to raise money for JT for a handicapped accessible van. No donation is too small. If you are unable to donate please help spread the word by sharing his story. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

All of the money raised will go directly to purchasing this van for JT.
