Steve Foga's Medical/Funeral Fund

As many of you know my dad has had a tough life with medical issues, heart problems, etc.  In October, 2013 he was diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome).  Our only option of survival at that time was to start looking for a donor and to consider a bone marrow transplant.  Luckily his brother was a perfect match.  So after a long road of blood transfusions and tests, on March 28th he was transplanted with his brothers stem cells to help form new bone marrow.  One small stint in ICU then we were home.  After more months of transfusions and doctor's appointments we received news that we beat MDS and he was considered in remission.  I remember he and I cried and hugged the doctor that day.  But as months went on he started with a small cough that turned into a small infection; all treatable.  Then the blood transfusions were needed again, more often too.  We knew all along there was a chance of host vs. graft disease.  And we soon found out it was attacking his liver.  Again, thinking this was treatable we figured we have gone through so much we will treat this too.  Long story short, his was admitted to the hospital Dec. 3rd with hopes of treating the liver.  As the days and weeks went on, we kept hoping for the liver numbers to improve but everything was going in the wrong direction.  The worse the liver got he became worse losing strength, speech, awareness.  A few days ago we still had hope with one last medicine but knew it would be a long chance because of the declining liver functions.  We were worried that any little infection his body would not be able to handle.  And unfortunately onJan 5, 2015 his lost his battle.  We are devasted and trying to pick up the pieces.  My brother, sister and I want to give our dad a funeral but with many medical bills over the past few years and no life insurance it has become increasingly difficult.  I understand it is a tough time of year and everyone has their own problems.  But we are asking in lieu of flowers to place make donations to help us with funeral/burial expenses.  I had no idea the cost of a funeral and unfortunately this was not planned for.   Any amount will help and be extremely appreciated as we are paying for this ourselves.
