HOPE for Chance

On December 18th, 2014.  My 11 year old daughter’s horse and best friend suffered a horrific accident involving a fence post on someone else’s property. He was impaled approximately 12 inches reaching his chest cavity,lacerating his lung and splintering his rib.  A vet was called immediately late at night and with the vet, we doctored him day and night at home.  Unfortunately, the day after Christmas, it was apparent to us and his vet that we needed to transfer him to UC Davis (things had turned THAT bad, THAT quickly) he was diagnosed with Pleuropneumonia.   "It’s My Chance" or “Chance” as we call him, is that once in a lifetime horse.  We gave Chance to our daughter for her 8th birthday.  The bond they have is unbreakable, unimaginable and continues to amaze everyone.  Whether its 4H, winning buckles at the schooling shows, riding with the pony express delivering Christmas cards, trail riding, gymkhana’s,  state champion drill team or teaching her young friends to ride...... there is nothing this pair has not been able to achieve.  There is no amount of money in the world that could replace this horse; however, his vet bills have begun to exceed our ability to repay without the help of friends, family and those willing to help.  His will to survive amazes even his vets!  They have given him a good prognosis to recover fully to the horse he was before his horrific accident.  We are asking for any help to cover his current vet bill and ongoing rehabilitation.  I want to let you also know, that if “Chance” was in pain or if  his quality of life would be in anyway affected by this, we would do the humane choice to let our friend ride over the rainbow bridge to wait for his little girl.  However that is NOT the case here.  We know having horses are expensive, I have owned and taken excellent care of my horses for 30 years, but we all know freak accidents that are out of our control can happen and I trust together we can save this amazing horse.  Thank you and God bless (May you never be in this position to make these hard choices).
