JR Watts' ALS Journey

Donation protected
December 2021:
Thanks to each and every one of you, JR was able to purchase a van and had it retro-fitted for his accessibility earlier this year. He was also able to purchase a scooter. We are extremely thankful for your generosity as he has continued to decline rapidly and is in a wheelchair full time. He and our family have continued traveling for neurology appointments and clinical trials looking for anything to help improve his symptoms. In January 2022, he will continue to travel for multiple weeks for experimental treatment. If his symptoms do not improve, we will also need to purchase a lift in the near future. We GREATLY appreciate any help provided as we continue to fight with JR and do everything in our power to find a treatment that works.

Our family remains extremely thankful for all of your prayers, kindness, and love that you continue to give.

God Bless,

October 2020:
My brother, Justin JR Watts, was diagnosed with ALS in May 2020. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. ALS attacks cells in the brain and spinal cord that are needed to keep muscles moving, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis. There are currently no known effective cures or treatments to stop disease progression of ALS.

JR and his wife, Catherine, have three sons. Camden is 3, and the twins, Colton and Cooper, are 20 months. Since JR's diagnosis, they have paid for travel across the US for appointments with multiple neurologists, multiple treatments hoping to slow progression of ALS, and starting renovations on their home for wheelchair accessibility.

However, due to JR's progression, he will be "retiring" from his job this month. Catherine will continue to work full-time to support the family and keep insurance for their three sons. But a few expenses are going to be needed very soon, most likely before the end of the year. A wheelchair accessible van will cost around $70K. Insurance will help cover a wheelchair/scooter, but they will still need to pay around a $5K co-pay. There will also be other expenses accrued for further treatment, travel for neurology appointments, and renovations for their home (wheelchair ramps, modifying master bathroom, etc.). They continue to apply for possible grants, but would GREATLY appreciate any help provided.

Our family is beyond grateful for all of the prayers, kindness, and love that you have given so far.

God Bless,
