My name is Jala Washington. I am a sophomore at Ball State University studying both Journalism News and Spanish.
TV reporting and the Spanish language have been a passion of mine for many years now, and has only intensified throughout my college years. Here at Ball State, I have been involved with a student run media organization called, "Rip or Rave". With this event, a crew travels around to neighboring Universities to cover special events and report back to the campus community. I have also served as an interviewer and reporter for other school sponsored events.
There is a wonderful opportunity before me to participate in a study abroad internship at a news station in Madrid, Spain for 8 weeks this summer! As well as broadening my horizons, I would get to explore both of my fields of study while perfecting my Spanish speaking skills as I would be emerged in the Spanish culture.
An internship such as this one would greatly help me in my future career of reporting. Not only will it allow for versatility; it would also provide me the opportunity to learn how to communicate with Spanish speaking individuals, as Spanish is a rapidly growing language in the United States.
While this is an opportunity of a life time, it is rather costly. Nonetheless, I do not intend to let this stop me from pursuing my aspirations.
