Paying tribute to Jozef Bindas

It is with a deeply saddened heart that our Carytown community had to say  goodbye to Jozef Bindas, owner of long-standing business, Jean Jacques Bakery. Bindas left this world on Tuesday, June 16th, survived by his two daughters, Liliana Bindas and Claudia Muth. 

Bindas owned the bakery for over 36 years at the same location in Cary Court Shopping Center. Bindas was a trained professional master baker for over 47 years. At the young age of 13, after an apprenticeship under a French Master Baker, he fell in love with the art of pastry and bread making. Jozef traveled the world learning from the best and came back to his hometown of Richmond and opened Jean Jacques Bakery in 1983. He truly loved making beautiful and delicious treats for his local Richmond community to enjoy. 

His eldest daughter, Liliana followed in his footsteps and is a professional baker and pastry chef at The Federal Reserve Bank's Executive dining room. His youngest daughter, Claudia took after her father's love of wine and specializes in wine and beverage sales. Both daughters reside in Richmond, Virginia. 

As a close friend of the family, and a fellow Carytown business owner, I am asking our friends, family, and local community to please help his daughters during this extremely difficult time by donating. The cost of funeral expenses and preperation of a memorial service is a cumbersome financial struggle, on top of the emotional distress that they are currently going through. 

"We would like to give back to Carytown. That place was like a second home to us, just as much as it was his." Liliana Bindas stated as she and her sister have graceiously offered to give a percentage of the donations back to the Carytown community where his father lived every day of his life.
