**This page was started when Josie turned 1 year old (2017) to help the family cover medical expenses. Josie will be 5 years old July 13, 2021. Josie is blessed with an extra chromosome which allows her to have Downs Syndrome.
Josie will be attending the Intensive Feeding Therapy Day Treatment Program again through Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Marcus Autism Center. Since Josie began the program on June 17, 2019 she has started accepting food by mouth (most of the time), chews up her food but does not swallow it. We just received word that Josie will be starting the Day Treatment Program on Wednesday, June 16.. The feeding program is an intensive, 5 days/week therapy program that lasts at least 8 weeks. The goal for her attendance in the program is to overcome the food aversion & begin eating a variety of foods & textures upon completion. She will have to keep the G-tube in place until she can and will reliably consume enough calories by mouth to sustain her high energy & growth rate.
The Marcus Center is associated with Children’s Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA). Beginning Wednesday, Josie and Jan will be residing in Atlanta for 8 weeks, while James will remain (mostly) at home with the dogs and will be working. James will also be transporting John most weekends. John will be staying with Grandma, Grandpa and Grammy while Josie is in Atlanta. Please keep the family in your prayers. The feeding program will be stressful on all of them; Josie during her participation, and the family as a while living apart for an extended period of time. Jan is in the process of researching foundations and grants to help offset the cost of lodging, meals, etc. If you know of any foundations or grants that could help offset the cost, please send them to Jan.
