Josh’s Surgery Travel Expense Fund

Prayers for Josh Josh is an 18 year old senior at Lancaster High School in Virginia. Several weeks ago, Josh was diagnosed with a rare birth defect. His aorta is on the wrong side of his heart. The artery running from his aorta is wrapped around his trachea and he has 2 other arteries blocking his airflow further down his bronchial tube. Josh will be having an exploratory procedure on February 6th at Emory Children’s Center at Eagleston Hospital in Atlanta, GA. On February 7th, Josh will have open heart surgery to try to fix this issue. The oldest child this procedure has been performed on was 7 years old, so there are a lot of unknowns associated with the success rate and recovery time. During surgery, there is a mid to high possibility that the doctors will have to remove one of Josh’s lungs for quality of life/preventing fluid build up. We are expecting a rather lengthy recovery process.
Joshua Miragliotta is my nephew, my oldest brother Tim Myers’ oldest son. Tim and Amanda (Josh’s mother) have been blessed that all costs of this complicated surgery are being covered 100%. This is such a huge blessing and will allow them to focus on Josh during this process instead of how they are going to pay for it. With permission from Josh’s parents I have created this gofundme account to help cover their expenses to travel to Atlanta, GA for Josh’s complex open heart surgery.
The hospital is a 9-9 1/2 hour drive each way from home. This is a 1200 mile round trip we would like to cover their fuel costs, plus any costs of fuel while they commute back and forth to/from the hospital. Hotel rooms are going to get expensive as they will be there a minimum of 9 days, possibly much longer depending on the surgery and Josh’s healing process. We will need to be able to feed Tim and Amanda and keep them fueled with coffee, etc. to get through the hardest moments they will hopefully ever have to go through. I will be with them at least through the surgery and a day or so after to make sure they are taking care of themselves and sitting with Josh if/when they need to take breaks to shower, eat, etc.
I am also going to try to help cover expenses for whatever we are unable to raise for them while I am there, but I am asking you, my friends and family, to help us show our love and support to this family.
The entire Myers/Miragliotta family will need many prayers to get through the next several months. We are a praying family that believes in the power of prayer and God’s healing. We ask you all to join us in prayer as we pray this family through this situation. I am creating a Prayers for Josh page for anyone who would like to stay updated throughout the surgery and recovery.
****I’ve created this fund to help both parents/families cover the cost of gas, food, lodging and possibly cover some lost income for Tim if his vacation time doesn’t kick in in time. There is another gofundme in Josh’s mother’s name that will still help cover costs associated with this trip, however we are hoping to be able to leave that account as is to help cover her lost income during this time. The money donated by Tim’s family to Amanda’s page will be used to help cover travel costs as well. There have been so many questions that we would like to use this one central fund to focus solely on expenses associated with this trip.
