Joseph Stephen Mitchell, 46 years of age, and a resident of New Russia Township, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following an apparent heart attack.
He was born November 29, 1970 in Lorain. Joseph was raised in Amherst and attended Marion L. Steele High School. He had made his home in the Oberlin, New Russia Township area for the last five years.
Joseph was a loving husband, father and Papa. He owned and operated Mitchell's Drain Cleaning for sixteen years. His work was about building relationships and caring for the people he served. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin. Joseph was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. His hobbies were never limited to but included playing baseball, cooking and tending to his yard. Joseph loved camping at Cooks Forest, PA with his family making memories. He enjoyed attending his daughters soccer games and spending time with his grandchildren. Joseph had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years Felicia Ann Mitchell (nee: Vasquez); his sons Jared Mitchell (Talia nee: Campana) of Elyria, Lucas Mitchell (Anessa Radcliffe) of Oberlin; his daughters Salena Mitchell (Joel Hettel) and their children Jace, Zoe and Jade of Amherst; Cara and Cali Mitchell both at home; his mother Kathy Mitchell (nee: Karney) of Amherst; his brothers Ron Mitchell (Jan) of Oberlin, Jerome Mitchell, Tony Mitchell and Tommie Mitchell all of Amherst; his sisters Erica Smith (Roy) of Elyria, Annie Mitchell (Kristen Hayden) of Lorain; as well as his many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Mitchell in 2008.
