On Saturday, July 21st, 2018, our beloved friend, son, brother, colleague, and teammate Jon Santarelli, was involved in a tragic sailing accident during the annual Race to Mackinac .

In celebration of his life, we will use this fund to generate proceeds for a memorial bench in Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL. This bench will be used to memorialize Jon and the place he loved.
Jon's personality was magnetic: he had a big heart, and he was enthusiastic about life, his friends, family and his hobbies. Jon always had a smile on his face and knew exactly how to make you smile too. There was no way you could have a bad day when Jon was around. He lived life to the fullest, from competing in Half-Ironman/Triathlon events, sailing every weekend, traveling internationally, and driving his motorcycle on road trips around the US. He embraced life and every person he met with open arms. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, his love of life, and his never-ending sense of adventure.
As per GoFundMe terms:
The funds from this campaign will be used solely to purchase a Chicago Park District memorial bench. The current cost of a memorial bench dedication in historical parks (i.e. Lincoln Park) is $10,000 and for non-historical parks (i.e Jonquil Park) is $5500-$7500. The additional funds outside of the goal of the bench will be to support the Santarelli Family.
Once we have the funds we will work with the city to find a suitable location for the bench. The current installation window is spring or fall with current lead time of 2-3 months to final installation. When we know the final location of the bench we will host a dedication ceremony for all to attend.
The withdraw plans are as follows: Tim & Kait Kelly, Jessica Bannon, and Stefany Samp will withdraw the funds and work with the Chicago Park District to purchase the memorial bench.
Any additional proceeds outside of the ultimate goal will be given directly to the Santarelli Family from any of the 4 above listed persons .
