In February, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 ColoRectal Cancer. I guess, not the news you are ever prepared to hear! Having been blessed with great health in my life, this was quite the surprise.
Being a very positive person by nature, my family and I started to take this head on with a 'can do' spirit and positive energy. My goal is to also to 'pay if forward' as I plan to encourage many people that I meet during this time!
The decision was made to remove the tumor via surgery. Out patient surgery turned into an overnight stay when blood clotting complications caused me to have a 2nd surgery the same day. My wife was such a help during this difficult day.
The first phase of my treatment was chemotherapy. I finished 6 cycles of chemotherapy (3 months). I do praise God for how he gave me strength through this process. I was a bit fatigued but for the most part was able to work through it with manageable side effects.
Now, I am doing chemo radiation therapy.....6 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy administer through a pump that stays with me the entire 6 weeks....those of you that know me, I am usually on the move so this is a bit daunting!
After chemo radiation therapy, serious and some scary decisions will be made regarding additional surgery, which could be a bit life altering, but praise God, the prognosis looks good!
So, I got the Big C! Won the Cancer lottery, but I remain positive and am working hard to be an encouragement to those around me....especially those that I see and interact with in treatment....seems we have instant bonds based on Cancer.
So, why am I on gofundme? Although I have health insurance, Cancer care is quite costly. Deductibles, co-pay, hospital, surgeons, anesthesiologist, etc. So my purpose is three-fold: 1) Yes, to ask for help in paying for medical bills. But, 2) To tell my story a bit and let my family and friends know what I am going through so they can pray and think of me and my family. 3) I want to PAY IT FORWARD! My plan will be to help as many people as I can through this process. I have met some incredible people who are in very difficult circumstances. A large porting of what I receive will help these great people as well. And, I plan to donate to Colon Cancer Research as well....Cancer SUCKS so I want to help eliminate it!
The bills are coming in so any gift would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar will go directly to my care or to help others. Any amount would help my family feel a bit of relief from worry and anxiety regarding financial worries.
