Joshua ended up attempting a back flip in the minutes between the end of the meeting we were attending and time to leave. None of us knew how bad off he really was. We drove from the Spokane area back to Walla Walla, WA. Not wanting to go to ER because of the cost, and because all Walla Walla Urgent Care's were closed, Cheri drove Joshua to an Urgent Care in Kennewick, WA. After an xray and evaluation we were referred to the Kadlec ER for a CT scan to see if any bones were broken. We were told nothing was broken, but that some of the vertebrae in the C5/C6 area looked too far apart, and an MRI was needed. At the end of that very long day (actually early the next morning) we were referred to a nuerosurgeon.
Making the appointment turned out to be challenging because that Nuerosurgeon doesn't typically do surgery on minors. God blessed, and we ended up getting an appointment. The accident was on Sunday, and the surgery was the following Wednesday morning.
We do have insurance. The total charge for the treatment that we have received bills for was just over $75,000. The amount we are trying to raise would cover the amount of Joshua's medical bills that are considered our responsibility that we have recieved so far. There is no way to know how many other bills we might still recieve! :( But, we think we have received most of them. Just under $5000 is on a payment plan that we have scheduled to pay over the next 17 months, the remainder is on our credit cards already.
We are so grateful to God for his provision in sparing Joshua's life, and preserving full nuerofunction. He has not had any signs of nerve impairment such as tingling or numbness the entire time. He is not yet back to full function, but can do most things. He was recently released to jog, and can gradually increase his weights. He isn't allowed to do things that would be likely to have an impact to the head - so doing everything in soccer, basketball, and volleyball has to wait; but he can do parts of them.
