Join Charlotte's Fight w/ Leukemia

From the Kimbrell Family:

On February 7th, 2018, our precious Charlotte was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), or cancer of the blood. That day is one we will certainly never forget. Charlotte had been having chronic fevers, fatigue, and occasional colds since the fall so we had already been trying to figure out why she continued to feel so badly. After her energy levels dropped even more and her color started to change the pediatrician sent us to the hospital to have labs drawn. We hadn’t even made it halfway home when the doctor called with the results and told us to turn around and take her back to the hospital as quickly as we could.

That night she was admitted and over the next couple of days we learned more details about her diagnosis and what the treatment plan was going to look like. Thankfully her particular type of leukemia has a good prognosis; however, it is a very long road to recovery—a marathon, not a sprint, so to speak.

The treatment will involve at least one year of IV chemotherapy (some inpatient and some outpatient) followed by a year of oral chemotherapy. The outpatient portion will entail regular trips to the clinic with the possibility of additional stays in the hospital if she happens to catch a cold or virus.

Charlotte has already overcome so much in her short life (the inherent challenges that come with having Down syndrome, as well as eye and brain surgeries) and we have faith that she will beat this too. We are so thankful for the incredible amount of support we have already received from family and friends, and even from those whom we’ve never had the opportunity to meet.

You are each a very special part of Charlotte’s Web!

We have started this campaign because of the significant financial impact this unexpected challenge has had on Charlotte and her family.  Charlotte and her family would be very grateful for your help in taking on the financial challenges that they are facing now and will continue to face in the days and months ahead.  Pediatric hospitalization costs for cancer treatment in one year on average exceeds $40,000.  Your contribution will help Charlotte and her family pay for the costs they face as Charlotte fights her battle against Leukemia.
