John Stowe's Brain Tumor Recovery

Donation protected
When John and Debbie heard the diagnosis of a Meningioma Brain Tumor, they were terrified, but tried to stay optimistic and prayed for the best. Thankfully, the tumor turned out to be benign. But two brain surgeries within 24 hours--the first to remove the tumor and the second to re-insert a dislodged drainage tube in John's skull--have left John a different man and Debbie alone to navigate the path forward.

John spent over a month in ICU at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and on September 21 was moved to Regency Acute Care Center, where he is today. The doctors cannot fully explain John’s state following the surgery. Up until mid-October, he was completely blind in both eyes. He now has limited vision, which comes and goes. He is unable to stand and can only sit-up with assistance. His heart rate and blood pressure have plummeted frequently, requiring his breathing to be done by a ventilator through a tracheotomy. His speech has returned but his memory and comprehension are impaired and he is often very anxious and confused.

The future is very uncertain for Debbie and John. All they know for sure is it will be a very long, difficult journey, with an uncertain outcome. Once John is weaned from the ventilator, it’s likely he will move to another transitional care facility where they will focus on rehabilitation-learning to walk with or without sight, regaining his strength, and learning how to live with his brain injuries.

For the first month, Debbie rarely left the hospital so she wasn’t able to work. While she is working some now, the financial burden of what has occurred and is yet to come is overwhelming for her.

We’d like to give Debbie some relief from the financial pressures she’s facing and allow her to stay focused on helping John recover. She has been overwhelmed with the compassion, kindness, prayers and support given to her and John. For those of you who know Debbie, she is very reluctant to ask for help! But, after exhausting her available resources, she’s agreed to let us do this Go Fund Me story.

We thank you in advance and GREATLY appreciate any assistance you can provide to Debbie and John. They are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family!!

We’ll continue to update this site with progress that John makes. Please share Debbie and John’s story with others who may be moved to help.
