John Weirs'Funeral/Memorial

Donation protected
On the 5th of July 2017 our dearest husband, father, poppy and mate too so many sadly passed away. We are trying to get behind this family and raise funds to financially assist with JOHN WEIR's funeral costs.

John was one very well known man within the local community of Jimboomba. He was a recovery mechanic in the Australian army for 21 years as well as a very dedicated fire fighter of the Jimboomba fire brigade for 20 years, reaching the rank of a lieutenant, training and mentoring many of his fellow colleagues. John was also an active member of the Beaudesert SES and till the day of his passing was extremely dedicated to the Jimboomba district cadet unit with a rank of RSM.

John had a very hard and painful five years, he was a diabetic who sustained a pressure injury to his little toe while attending a pumps course with the fire brigade, long story short, this little wound very quickly turned gangrene which required his toe to be amputated. With further testing the gangrene was deeper in his foot than first expected. Requiring many of more lengthy surgeries and invasive procedures resulting in vein transplants and then further to a below knee amputation.

When we thought things were looking up for him the same thing happened to his other leg requiring three toes to be amputated. After this long and exhausting rehabilitation seven months in total, he was then able to be discharged from hospital and returned home, ramps were specially built for his wheelchair, a prosthetic leg was made and fitted and through all this pain he still managed to push on to meet the community needs assisting where ever possible, including aiding in emergency flood relief, search and rescue for missing hikers, training and mentoring the Jimboomba Cadets and upholding a strong desire to return to Jimboomba Fire Brigade.

Then the last two weeks of Johns life he became unwell again, retaining fluid in his legs, becoming short of breath on the most simplest of tasks, again he pushed on and he still managed to haul his grandson and himself to the local cadet unit every Wednesday night to train and mentor our local cadets. But not this time, although it was a typical Wednesday training night with cadets unfortunately he did not make it. Sadly John passed away at home and family, friends and every person he has come across is heart broken.

We have had much support already from our local community and friends to help with John's funeral, although there are still many costs that without life insurance etc. are going to prove difficult to cover.

For a man whom has done so much good and given so much of his life to help others we are asking for anyone who knew John or even knew of John to help us reach our goal so we can send our father, friend and much loved community go getter off in the way he deserves with a service that honours and does justice to his inspiring spirit.
