John Higgins is a very dear friend of our family, he also happens to be our daughter-in-laws dad. John owns his own home improvement business in which he works solo. Six weeks ago, while working on a customers house he was 20 feet up on a ladder, the ladder slid out causing him to fall landing on the blacktop. He broke his foot which required surgery, broke bones in his face including his nose, and dislocated his shoulder. Because John is self-employed and works solo, he doesn't have compensation insurance or people working for him to assure his work gets done while he is home recuperating, this also means he has no income. Johns wife, Lisa, has many health issues of her own that keep her from being able to work to help alleviate the financial strain they currently face. They have sold some of their possessions to compensate a small portion of their monthly expenses, and family and friends are helping as much as they can, but even that isn't enough to cover their household expenses. They live modestly and within their means, however, this has created a burden they need the help of others to carry. The doctors haven't given him a time frame of when he will be able to return to work, so they are forced to take this one day at a time. It would mean the world to them (and me) if we could rally together a community of people to help alleviate the financial burden they are living. John and Lisa are the type of people who would do this for others, so I feel compelled to do the same for them. Remember no gift is too small!!
