John Blunden mountain bike accident

Donation protected
John Blunden had a fall during a mountain bike race on Sunday 24 June 2018.

He sustained severe injuries including a punctured lung, 10 broken ribs (5 on each side of the rib cage), a cracked sternum, 3 cracked vertebra in his cervical spine and 3 shattered thoracic vertebra, numerous cracked thoracic vertebra and a cracked tail bone.  Doctors are waiting for swelling to go down to determine whether the spinal cord has been severed.

As a result of the injury to his thoracic spine he has no feeling from the waist down. John was operated on and surgeons removed all bone fragments from around the spine and inserted metal rods from T4 - T9 in his spine.

The road to recovery for John, his wife Carolyn, their son (12yrs) and their daughter (8yrs) will require many months of treatment and rehabilitation. John is a teacher on the Sunshine Coast.  Carolyn will be travelling to and from Brisbane for an unknown time to support John as he recovers from his accident.

Any support that can be offered will be gratefully received as they will be used to help John with equipment he will need in the future with regards to his recovery and paralysis.  He will have ongoing physio work and may require a wheelchair etc.  As John's sister, I am trying to help them out by taking away the financial burden to John and his wife, while he is recovering from his injuries.
