Nine months ago, my sister, Trina Brie called me very upset and crying, She told me that the love of her life, John Bailey, Jr., is very ill and that both of their lives were about to change significantly.
You see , unbeknownest to John, he had been infected by a virus that attacks the liver which leads to inflammation and is known as, the Hep C Virus, left untreated it could cause liver cancer and lymphomas.
John has had multiple hospital visits, medical procedures like paracentesis (weekly) for past 6 months and an interventional procedure called Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) that may be used to reduce portal hypertension and its complications, which places a small wire-mesh coil (stent) into a liver vein.
While going through these procedures, he has been waiting to be a candidate for treatment that will help to cure the Hepatitis C. He just recently began his treatment on Harvoni. The medicine takes at least 12 weeks and not only will makes him very ill but also is extremely expensive.
Unfortunately, the symptoms from portal hypertension n hep C have made it impossible for John to work these past 9 months. Although, John has gotten some medical assistance, his insurance does not cover all the medical procedures, medical bills or the expensive medicine required to cure the Hep C. My sister, Trina, is not only his partner but his primary care-giver as well. She works full-time to make their living expenses and provide the care necessary for him.
John’s has always been a happy-go-lucky person, and has spent most of his life doing kind things for others. He is the kind of guy that will give his last dime to someone that needs it no matter what.
He is a great friend, fiance', father and grandfather
