Women Empowerment and Education

Donation protected

Hi there! My name is Joh. I am an Arab-American Muslim woman, fortunate to have been raised in America where gender equality is on the rise. It has given me the skillset to pay it forward by empowering other women both locally and globally. Currently, I am seeking funding for two projects, both near and dear to me. My departure date is June 11, 2015, however, this campaign will run for the whole summer (the duration of both projects).

Morocco Project: This first project is for a duration of seven weeks. I will be working with

IVHQ

(International Volunteer Headquarters)  and ILCS (Institute for Leadership and Communication Studies). I will also be working with NIHD (National Initiative for Human Development) for women education in Morocco., educating and empowering women with the skills and confidence needed to secure a job.

During Ramadan, I will be doing some of the charitable work that the Qur'an asks. This includes helping socially disadvantaged families in poor neighborhoods by teaching English and topics related to Art, teaching Gender Equality, Empowering Women, Organizing workshops on ethics and values, and collecting food.

Being an Arab-American Muslim Woman, this project is especially dear to me. It gives me a firsthand opportunity to experience Ramadan in a Muslim country. I will also be studying Arabic for 4 hours a day, every day for a period of seven weeks. This fluency in Arabic would make me a likely candidate for a career in petroleum geology - A dominant androgenic career field - upon graduation at Bryn Mawr College. To top it off, fluency in Arabic would also give me cultural enrichment of being proficient in one of my native languages.

I am truly blessed with this opportunity to make a difference in many different ways.

Belize Project: This second project involves me along with two of my fellow geology classmates, Ana Mejia and Nancy Toure. We had been to Belize along with our geology class at Bryn Mawr College over Spring Break to do research. We were presented with a fundraising campaign the locals of the community were doing to raise money for computers for the local schools.

SCHOOL IN BELIZE

The founder of the IZE Belize program requested us to cover the cost of their school supplies and medical supplies. He also invited us to travel back to Belize over the summer for a few weeks to empower the local women of this developing community. Apart from this, we will also be teaching them gender equality and computer software skills. This will foster confidence in them which would enable them to get better opportunities in securing a job in their future.

Ana & Myself in Belize

Though the three of us [BMC Geology Majors] have different career goals, yet we have one single thing in common. We want to use our Major for the greater good in developing communities worldwide. Opportunities like these are a perfect place to start and provide us the necessary foundation to find different ways to give back to the community.

Nancy - My Other Classmate!

Neither of these projects provide Scholarship or Fee Waivers. Thus, I decided, with appreciation and gratitude to those who support me, to start this fund-raising campaign. I am raising money for myself for the first project and the three of us for the second project.

All of the money raised will fund these projects by providing to/from destination transportation, at the destination transportation, food, travel insurance, international medical insurance, program tuition and fees, purchase of donation supplies and transport costs, visas, vaccinations, and incidentals. None of the funding will be used for personal use.

Every dollar counts and is extremely appreciated. We won't be able to do this without your support. Please re-thread this campaign through all of your social media sources, private sources, and ask that people donate $5 and re-thread this campaign themselves, etc., and let's get the chain going.

Again, I have much gratitude and appreciation for all of your support, in any and all forms!

Thank You!

CONTEST: I will select 2 winners at the end of the campaign! The person with the highest contribution for each project, Morocco and Belize, will have something shipped to them from that country. When you make your donation, Kindly mention the project you are supporting and something from that country you would love to have.
