Hello everyone, my name is Joseph Van Susteren. For those of you who do not know me I am a cancer and brain injury survivor who loves helping people and making others laugh. In 2011 I was diagnosed witsituationh Hodgkins Lymphoma and underwent 2 intense types of Chemotherapy to treat the disease. I have now been in remission for 5 years and I am happy to be alive. However, as with any bout with cancer there are secondary issues that arise and potential recurrences.
On that note, after recently beginning to experience severe pain in my lymph-nodes I went first to the doctor and then to the dentist after it was determined through X-rays and high resolution photos that there were some precancerous areas that were cause for concern towards the back of my mouth -which is wear chemo dries out and damages your mouth most.
After speaking with my dentist I was told that the areas would need treatment in order to prevent continued infections and higher possibility of a cancer resurgence. On March 24th 2018 I had the first part of the operation completed which removed the areas of concern from my mouth and jaw. At that time I paid 1,500 dollars to begin the process. The way my dentist works he expects patients to pay the total cost of the operation up front and wait for a reimbursement check from their insurance. I cannot afford to wait for the reimbursement so, in my case he has placed me on a payment plan due to the urgency of the situation and my medical history.
Even with the payment plan the financial burden is too much for me to handle on my own and I cannot work anymore than the 2 jobs I currently have.
It is for this reason that I am asking my family and friends and everyone in between for help through a go-fund me campaign. The amount I have placed as the goal is the remaining cost of the operation but every little bit helps and I am grateful for anyone that takes the time to donate.
Additionally, this whole experience has been quite traumatic for me and if you know me personally and want to give me a call, all kind words will be appreciated.
