Joe Nash Medical Fund

Hi, my name is Joe Nash. As many of you know, a few months ago I was admitted into the hospital. Melinda and I were at the doctor's office and the doctor told us we needed to get to the hospital because I had something that only 39 other people in the United States had. Pyoderma gangrenosum, the worst case she had ever seen. In fact there were only 39 other cases in the US that was worse than mine. We also met with my oncologist and between the two doctors we were in the hospital that night. Little did my wife and I know we would be there 82 days and during this time I would be in the ICU three times and the head surgeon would tell my wife to call the family in two different times, that I would not make it. The head surgeon later told Melinda and myself that it was nothing they had done in order for me to still be here and that I should not have made it. All I'm saying is God wasn't ready. Day by day we had to walk by faith not knowing what would be next. About halfway through our stay at Tulane Medical Center, the doctors came into my room and said that they had found something else. Again another rare disease, this time a fungus actually that only 3 other people in the world had. Purpureocilium lilacinam was new to my doctors but over time and 10 different surgeries here we are today. It's expected to be anywhere from 18 months to 2 years for the healing process as lots and lots of my leg had to be cut away because this was a a flesh eating disease and lots of damage was done. There was so much infection in the tissue the only thing they could do is cut it out. It goes from my ankle up past my knee on the entire front and around to the side. Be sure to look at the pictures, but know that they are graphic. So far, since being out of the hospital after the 82 days I've been back in the hospital 3 times but while not in the hospital I've had anywhere from 3 to 5 doctor visits each week with the exception of Thanksgiving week and co-pays are killing us along with all the other bills that this has created. You would think that there would be some kind of help out there with it being so rare but that's just it. It is so rare being that only four of us have it, that there is nothing set up to help others. Not sure how to make this thing go viral or even just to reach a lot of people but I know with your help you can send it to the folks you know and then they could send to people they know and so on and so on...
