Joe Glavan Memorial Fund

It is with great sadness that the Sydney Processing Centre team announces the passing of a dear friend and colleague Joe Glavin after bravely fighting a battle with cancer. Joe was a valued and much loved member of our Testing team and joined Lifeblood in 1997 at the age of 22. Joe’s speciality was immunohaematology and he had a passion for training and educating countless laboratory staff in his time with us.

Put simply, Joe was one of the nicest guys we have ever had the pleasure of working with, a family man with a cool head and wicked sense of humour. In times of crisis, Joe was always the calmest person in the room and could always make you feel better with his advice and wry smile.

Joe injected a sense of fun into our work. It was common to see Joe’s alter ego “John” training and assessing staff in the laboratory. The characteristic disguise of John, shades and a fake moustache, allowed the assessment process to be both impartial and fun at the same time. There are countless moments that we have shared with Joe that will always make us smile and remember him fondly.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Joe’s wife Renata and his children Luka and Tiana. In memory of Joe’s life and to offer support to his young family, we are seeking your gift.
