Jocy's Journey to Recovery
Hi family & friends,
We are asking for thoughts, prayers, and donations for Jocy's brain recovery.
Please feel free to read her story below.
Please understand a few details have been omitted for her privacy.
As some of you know, my sister Jocelyn suffered an AVM Hemorrhage in her brain. AVM is when a vein & an artery connect causing a disruption to the blood flow which may lead for it to burst. In the case of Jocy, it ruptured & bled which led to her suffering 2 major seizures, multiple faints, & losing her vision.
Jocy spent 2 weeks in 3 different hospitals, mostly in ICU. The first hospital sent her home with medications and told her to self transport to Ben Taub for brain surgery 4 weeks out. However, Jocy fainted a few hours later and the paramedics had to transport her to the nearest hospital. This hospital then had to transport her to a third hospital for emergency treatment.
She has since been discharged under the condition that she will be cared for 24/7 until she is (we hope) cleared from having brain surgery.
This has put her life on hold for 6 months.
She had to take an incomplete from her nursing school, resign from her summer job, & not be able to participate in hot girl summer.
She is not allowed to drive, workout, swim, go up a flight of stairs, & be alone for the next couple of months, among other things such as closing the restroom door.
She is now on heavy medications which has changed her energy & appetite levels.
Please be aware that the neurosurgeon does not know when and if her vision will fully return.
Thankfully, her vision has been slowly progressing but still not clear enough to read texts or writing.
Please be considerate & patient if you've reached out to her personally.
She's fortunate to have the help & care from her family.
Please understand that this has been a financial stress as hospitals bills, missing work, eye doctor visits, & medications add up. We will also be building a restroom downstairs for her.
We are asking for any financial assistance & support for future appointments with the nuerodoctors, neurosurgeons, MRI's & CT Scans to continue monitoring her brain. Even with expensive insurance, one MRI test is roughly $2,500.
