Our family is writing this on behalf of Jocelyn Dow. In the early morning of Tuesday July 18th, Jocelyn and a friend were awoken by smoke alarms and were able to save three of the four dogs in the house as well as themselves. Everything else in the house has been lost, including the dear cats and items that can never be replaced that were a part of Jocelyn's life in Guyana.
Jocelyn is a well known activist and social entrepreneur, a member of the Georgetown community as well as a global community of activists.
The house on Charlotte Street meant a lot to many people; not because of what was in the house, but because of the welcoming spirit created by Jocelyn. Over the years, the house has hosted many different people in good times and bad. Many of you are aware that the contents of the house were not insured-- so that is a challenge that must be faced. What we do know is: as with everything Jocelyn has faced in this lifetime, she will face this too with bravery, wit and resilience, supported by family and friends.
Many of you who love her like we do are eager to help her now and asking what you can do, so we set up this fund as a place for you to direct your donations if you so wish.
