Joanne's Journey to Top Surgery & Recovery

Hi, my name is Joanne(they/she). I'm 27. I am genderfluid, nonbinary, black, a dragking, queer, a parent and a spouse and I am having top surgery. Top surgery is a double incision mastectomy with free nipple grafts. I want this gender affirming surgery because I've never really felt like me. I would look in the mirror and never actually see myself and I'd get dysphoric and depressed not knowing why I would feel disgusted with myself that went on for years until I learned about top surgery in 2019. After a lot of research, I knew that this is what I wanted and needed done to help with my dysphoria. My surgeon of choice is Dr. Ivan Hadad in Indianapolis, Indiana  and my surgery date is October 7th, 2021. My dysphoria has caused me to over the years hate myself, not be able to get out the bed some days, and even self harm. Top surgery is a medical necessity for me, I  want to be able to look in the mirror one day and be happy with who I see and for  how I feel on the inside to match what I see on the outside. With your help the amount I need will pay for bills and supplies since I will be out of work. I just want to be able to live my life authentically me.
