First off thank you for taking your time to look at this fundraiser.
Charlie Giles was in a horrible ATV accident while heading to go fishing with his family on 2/2/2020. While riding down a road he had been down 100's of times before when his ATV hit some loose rocks and caused him to flip. The ATV landed on top of him crushing his face and head underneath the weight of the vehicle.
His son(age 14), who was also on an ATV and his wife, who was in a truck was following behind and witnessed the entire ordeal. His son had to flip the ATV off of him. His wife and son called 911 and put as much pressure on the bleeding until the ambulance could arrive.
The injuries were severe and when medical assistance arrived they made the call to air lift him to UAB hospital for immediate care. He was non responsive and in critical condition so he was put in the ICU upon arrival.
The last few days have been a roller coaster of emotions. The pressure on his brain continues to spike every time they reduce his medication. Charlie is currently still in a medical induced comma as they wait for the swelling and pressure to subside. The last known update was a blessing, 24 hours has gone by with the brain pressure not spiking, if the next 24 hours are the same and his body temperatures stay normal they will start reducing the paralyzing drug, in hopes of an attempt to wake him up.
Charlie is the sole income of his family and with this accident the family has no means to pay for day to day bills as well as travel and time spent away at the hospital. The family also doesn't meet requirements for assistance with medical bills. This means there is no income for health insurance, mortgage, power, food and everything else.
With this injury insurance will only pay so much and hospital bills are racking up daily as Charlie fights for his life in the NICU. He still has a long road to go and we are still awaiting what his full recovery looks like.
There are also concerns with the family as they cope and deal with the tragic ordeal they had to witness. His son is taking it difficult as well having to see and deal with the accident first hand. It will be a long road as he deals with the images and nightmares that stem from this event.
