Isabelles Battle with DIPG

On April 13th Michal and Jackie Borkowski received the unfortunate news. Their 3.5 year old daughter Isabelle was diagnosed with Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).  Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is a type of brain tumor found in the pons, which is part of the brainstem. DIPG primarily affects children, with most diagnoses occurring between 5 and 7 years of age. DIPG makes up 10-15% of all brain tumors in children, with about 100-300 new diagnoses per year in the United States and a similar number in Europe. Unlike many other pediatric cancers, there has been little progress in improving treatments and cure rates for DIPG over the last few decades. Unfortunately, fewer than 10% of children with DIPG survive two years from diagnosis. Over the next 6 weeks Isabelle will be receiving radiation treatment at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital to help shrink the tumor and reduce her symptoms. Following that Michal and Jackie have thought of amazing ways to bring joy into Isabelle's life. Some of their ideas include: - having a princess come visit Isabelle at home - having a birthday party every month - going on an incredible trip - renting an RV and driving to the East coast - going to the zoo, the science centre, Canada's wonderland - renting a cottage - going to the beach and building lots of sand castles Your contributions will be used to turn this list into reality!
