Thank you for taking the time to read about our good friend and brother, Pat (Lotze) Field who has undergone horrific bodily trauma for the better part of a year and is still struggling to recover.
Patrick was first admitted to the hospital in June 2017 where he was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis - a flesh-eating bacteria caused by complications from diabetes. The tendons in his hand were initially attacked, which resulted in the total loss of the use of his right hand. The bacteria continued to spread and has wreaked havoc on many other parts of his body, most notably his spine. He had to have part of his collar bone and sternum removed, and now has two rods and seven bolts in his neck where his spine had to be reconstructed.
Pat has undergone eight surgeries in five months. While he is on the road to recovery, he finds himself homeless, jobless and in need of financial assistance for things that Disability doesn’t cover, such as Physical Therapy. He has a teenaged daughter - a sophomore at El Camino - who he has to provide for as well. He was just medically cleared to look for work (though he had already been looking - his stubbornness would not allow him to rest and heal). But since he only has limited use of one hand and no use of the other, finding a job is proving to be a difficult task, to say the least.
If you know Pat, you know how proud he is. The thought of asking for help is completely foreign to him, which is why we have created this GoFundMe page. Anyone fortunate enough to know Pat knows what a loyal friend he is. He would be there to help any one of us on a moment’s notice.
