My parents are simply amazing. No one who knows them would argue that. They are the most generous, open, loving people...to know them is to love them. Seriously. And so very many do! They have been married 54 years, and they have made it through just about everything, even the death of their son.
The past 18 months has thrown them one challenge after another...my father had 2 spinal surgeries, a heart attack and quadruple bypass, orthostatic hypotension (at least now we know why he kept passing out), bladder cancer-still ongoing, Pneumonia and countless infections from the cancer treatment. My mother has been his chauffeur, along with his caretaker and support, for the entire time-her sole focus.
While driving from his urologist to his neurologist 6 mos ago, she got in an accident and totaled her car. Since they figured they would be ok with just one car for a while, they decided to give me the money she got from insurance so I could finally replace my 18 yo car. Always generous.
Then today, when my babysitter cancelled last minute, my mom came to pick up my son so I could go to work, and my dad's car caught fire and was destroyed. She and my son are absolutely alright- really all that matters. HOWEVER, that car was 22 years old and only carried liability insurance. They are now without a car.
I wish that I, at 46, was in a financial place to help them out...but I chose to work in education and probably never will be.
I am hoping that karma will help me out here- for everything they put out in the world, for the generosity of spirit and heart that they have always shown, maybe the world can give back to them now. Please help them out. Help them get a car!
