Kara's House Fire Relief Fund

Donation protected
December 31; Aliquippa, PA:  Earlier this afternoon my sister, Kara, called and said her house was on fire.   As my mother and I rushed out to the car I looked in the direction of her house and noticed a billowing plume of black smoke on the hilltop, several miles away in Hopewell, and couldn't help but thinking that it must be her house.  When we got there it was even worse than I imagined.  Fire departments from Aliquippa, Hopewell, Center, Hanover, and Hookstown were still arriving on the scene.

Kara, my neice Alyssa,  and thier two dogs, Snoopy and Bandit, all managed to escape unharmed but the two cats were missing.  Kara ran back in to find them, but at that point the fire was too intense.  Later,  firefighters discovered one of the cats dead, and one is still missing.   It appears the fire started in the garage and rapidly enveloped the house.   Kara said she had just laid down to take a nap, and Alyssa was studying in her room, the closest part of the house to the garage.  Thank God for the complete stranger who called 911 and knocked on my sister's door to tell her the garage was on fire.    If it wasn't for this woman things could have been far worse, as Kara barely had time to get Alyssa and the two dogs out of the house.  Her car was sitting in the driveway and was already partly engulfed in flames as they got in and drove away to safety.  The house went up like a tinder box.

We are all thankful that they escaped unharmed.  They lost everything, but were not hurt.    Kara's insurance should cover most of the monetary value of their lost belongings, but these things take time, and they are in immediate need of clothes, shoes, coats, etc.

We would like to say "Thank You"  to the firefighters, and emergency workers who responed to the call.  We would also like to thank the Salvation Army, who showed up in the freezing temperatures and were serving hot drinks and food, and the Red Cross workers who came over to my mom's house last night with blankets, toothbrushes, and a voucher for $500.  Needless to say, Kara and Alyssa are still in shock  by the loss of everything they own, and the loss of Cameo the cat.  We are hoping that Sky made it out alive, but suspect the worst.

I don't know how else I can help, but trying to raise money to buy clothes and other necessities seems like a concrete place to start.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated, and would help Kara and Alyssa start the process of rebuilding. Thank you for your time and consideration, and have a Happy and Blessed New Year.

Sincerely,

Anthony Rubino
