Street Children Rescue Facility

Donation protected
There are about 130,000 street children in Kenya and we are very excited to be a part of a coalition of people and ministries joining to build a new ranch-home for the street children in Maua. There is a big need but little action for improving the lives of street-involved children and youth. By God's grace, we have 73 acres of land with 3 standing buildings donated to begin this project. This February, we will begin working on restoring these 3 buildings as well as building a new structure to function as a dining hall and common area.

While conducting extensive research with the children living on the streets of Maua, they consistently reported a desire for more schooling, food, safety from the streets, income, and a future that was as normal as any other. A rescue center will be used to provide transitional housing, psychosocial support, informal and formal education, trade learning, and detoxification from the glue children sniff to dull their senses to physical and emotional pain. Children and youth will be given the opportunity to live at the center for no longer than 2 years, and as short as they need to meet certain developmental milestones indicating they are ready to be adopted and integrated into normal society. These include proper emotional regulation, psychological health, time management skills, discipline, nutritional recovery, and other milestones yet to be developed. Social workers will provide psychosocial support and counseling. They will be taught to grow food, for consumption and for sale, and will be taught trade skills.
An exit strategy will be devised for each child and youth to enable them to reintegrate with society. Those who have become estranged from families that are willing to take them back will be supported financially, with food, school fees, or other necessities on an individual basis. Those who do not have families that can or will take them back into the home will be adopted by identified foster families in the community, or supported to live independently.

It is anticipated that the site can become a demonstration community for other governmental and non-governmental entities interested in supporting interventions for street children. Already the government of Meru County is interested in supporting this effort, and is leading other counties to do the same. The possibility to spread this model throughout Kenya and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa is real.

Our main purpose is to bring God glory by showering the kids with His unconditional love and guiding them to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our hope is that God's Word and mercy would bring them joy, strength, hope and healing. Thank you for taking the time to read about this amazing opportunity to be a part of a life changing project.

May God Bless your efforts and support! We thank you for your prayers.
