Jim's Journey with Melanoma

7 years ago my Dad, Jim Manley, was diagnosed with Melanoma (cancer). He went through a year of treatment and for 5 years there was no sign of cancer in his body. In October of 2016 it had come back and came back with a vengeance. In January 2017 he went through a major spinal reconstruction surgery to remove a large amount of melanoma that spread to his bones, cracked the spine and entered the spinal cord. He then started immunotherapy treatments and radiation to treat the melanoma still in his spine, hips, ribs, and skull. In August 2017 it had spread to his brain and he had to have brain surgery. In October 2018 an old tumor on the spine that was "dead' from treatment ended up infected. He was rushed in for emergency surgery where they had to remove the tumor and scrape as much of the infection off the spine as possible. Two days later he had to go back in and remove more of the infection. 

He was released from the hospital 10/28/17 and is now home with a PICC line for IV antibiotics for 6-8 weeks and then oral antibitiocs for another 4-6 weeks. He has a lot pain medication as well. On top of the medications, he has to have an in home care nurse come in several times a week week to be sure my mom is doing ok with the IV meds, changing the bandanges and administering pain meds. He will also have an in home physical therapist several times a week. 

Unfortunately, a lot of this is not covered by insurance and the costs will quickly add up again (like they did last January) so we are reaching out for help.
